Firstly, I head it was a classic that was actually good. I have read some other classics Lord of the Flies especially that have puzzled me as to why they were classics. I heard The Great Gatsby was actually a novel that I actually might enjoy. Secondly, the movie is coming out in May and I enjoy being one of those book snobs who can say the book was better.

Nick is unlike most people in West Egg. Nick meets Jordan Baker, a beautiful tennis player he begins a romantic relationship with. There a lot of things are revealed at the dinner.

Tom also goes on a racist rant and Daisy revealed how entitled she is. Soon after Tom takes Nick to visit his mistress in New York. Tom keeps an apartment up there for his affair. There is a rather interesting party in the apartment and when Myrtle gets drunk she taunts Tom about Daisy and subsequently gets punched in the nose.

As the summer continues Nick get a special invitation. Nick has a rather flamboyant neighbor named Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is known for his fabulous parties in his mansion in which there are bands, booze, and fun.

Jordan and Gatsby speak alone and Jordan tells Nick about the conversation. Nick learns, through Jordan, that years ago Daisy and Gatsby were in love with each other.

Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby because he was going to fight in the war but when he got back he discovered Daisy was married to Tom. After Gatsby knows that Nick knows he begs Nick to host a lunch and invite Daisy.

After their initially awkward reunion Daisy and Gatsby really hit it off, rekindle their love, and start an affair.

Even though Tom is participating in an affair himself he finds the idea of Daisy cheating on him very offensive. Tom catches Gatsby staring at his wife and goes ballistic.

On the way home Daisy is driving and accidently runs Myrtle over. Nick figures out that Gatsby intends to take the blame.
